7th April 2024 Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 20/35 Surf / Sea State: river chop Air Temperature: 15 Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 19.92 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 23 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Sunday 7th April – Windsurf *** River Orwell at Levington – Sunny and mild. Foil – 19.92 knot max ,17.51 knot ave, 13.51 knot hour, 15.69 knot mile, 37.01 km., 14.46 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Naish Nalu 4.75. Storm Kathern continues to blow but with more sunshine today so I decided to head over to Levington for the second day running arriving at the marina at 9.30:) Once again the tide was high and a strong breeze from the SW, foil board quickly set-up I rigged my 4.75 and launched into a lumpy river and soon realised I had rigged too big and my 4.2 would have been better! It was particularly strong on the corner with the wind blowing straight down the river so I headed upriver hoping it would be calmer, which it probably was but there was still some super strong gusts where it was hard to sheet in. I had 6 runs up past Pin Mill where the water was flatter but the wind gustier, so nothing overly fast as too windy to push things too hard! With winds now gusting well over 30 knots it was time to call it a day after all I had been on the water nearly two hours, the tide was very high when I finished, it was rough and windy and it was interesting getting the gear out of the water! So pack up shower and head for home and with Mag finishing spring cleaning we decided to get away from breezy Felixstowe and drive inland for a picnic at Falkenham Church:) Walk **** - Falkenham Curcuit including a picnic with ‘Emily’ at the church. We arrived at the church at 2.30 and enjoyed our do it your self picnic with lovely views down to the Deben, Mag has a new a new app on her mobile which identify birdsong which is amazing and soon found at least half a dozen even if we didn’t see them! In fact it was a good day for wildlife, we spotted a buzzard in Felixstowe, then a hare ran off at the start of our walk and a Chinese water deer:) We were both knackered when we left home but dinner bucked us up so we set off up the lane by the church and lovely it was too with the strong wind our backs and some nice whispy clouds in the sky. At the first junction we decided to carry on turning left ending up doing a circular walk winding up and down though lovely Suffolk countryside with very few humans about:) Photo Album here |
